High School Is Reimagined With Work-Focused Program

With college costs rapidly increasing, a 4-year degree may be out of reach for some young people, while many skilled positions remain unfilled due to a lack of qualified applicants. One high school in Dearborn, Michigan, is looking to address these issues. Fordson High School has created the Michael Berry Career Center, which educates students about career opportunities and enables them to learn more about different fields with hands-on activities. Dental hygiene and dental assisting are two of the tracks available in the health sciences academy. Automotive, engineering, computer science, construction, criminal justice, culinary arts, information technology, and welding tracks are also available. In the 9th grade, students begin exploring career options through field trips to businesses and colleges and completing aptitude tests. Tenth through 12th grades are spent on coursework tailored to their long-term career interests. Click here to read more.
