Dr. Sandra C. Andrieu Becomes ADEA President-elect

WASHINGTON, DC—Sandra C. Andrieu, Ph.D., Professor and Associate Dean of Academic Affairs at the Louisiana State University School of Dentistry (LSUSD), was installed as ADEA President-elect on March 18 at the 2009 ADEA Annual Session in Phoenix, Arizona. Dr. Andrieu will spend a year as ADEA’s President-elect and become ADEA President at the conclusion of the 2010 ADEA Annual Session in Washington, DC, February 27 – March 3.

“Sandra’s service to ADEA and to her institution shows her commitment to the Association and dental education. Her academic leadership experience on important issues facing the dental education community is of great value to ADEA,” said outgoing ADEA President Charles N. Bertolami, D.D.S., D.Med.Sc.

A longtime member of ADEA, Dr. Andrieu has been active in ADEA governance, committees and sections. Currently, she is a member of the ADEA Commission on Change and Innovation in Dental Education (ADEA CCI) and the ADEA Section on Academic Affairs. In 2005, she was elected ADEA Vice President for Sections and served on the ADEA Board of Directors. She has also held officer positions on the ADEA Council of Sections Administrative Board, including serving as Chair from 2005 to 2006. Dr. Andrieu has also been a member of the ADEA Sections on Student Affairs, on Dental Hygiene Education, and on Financial Aid Administration. From 1994 to 1999, she served on the American Association of Dental Schools’ (now ADEA) Educational Affairs Advisory Committee.

Dr. Andrieu has been a dental educator for 30 years, beginning her career as a dental hygiene faculty member at LSUSD. As an academic dean, she serves on numerous school committees, including those with responsibility for academic performance, advancement, development of competency statements, accreditation, strategic planning, and curriculum.

The author and coauthor of many articles, abstracts, and professional presentations, Dr. Andrieu has been President of the Louisiana Dental Hygiene Association and is a member of the Theta Kappa Chapter of the Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Honor Dental Society and the American Dental Hygiene Association. In 1999, she received the Louisiana State University Health Science Center Pfizer Award for Excellence in Research, Education, and Patient Care.

Dr. Andrieu holds a B.S. in Dental Hygiene from LSUSD and earned an M.Ed. with special emphasis in curriculum and instruction and a Ph.D. in educational administration with a special emphasis on higher education from the University of New Orleans.
