ST. PAUL, Minn. – The 3M™ ESPE™ Elipar™ S10 LED Curing Light has received the award of Editor’s Choice by THE DENTAL ADVISOR*. The unit was identified as the most significant product evaluated in the issue of July/August 2010. With its unique combination of properties, the light curing device made of stainless steel convinced all consultants who tested it to give the highest rating possible—five plusses.
The Elipar S10 is a curing unit that stands out due to its smart design combined with advanced technology. Thanks to the successful interplay between form and function, the device has been among the winners of the Red Dot Design Award, a renowned international design competition, in 2010. Now, the consultants of THE DENTAL ADVISOR have been able to experience its unmatched performance: the device was tested in 1,255 cases.
The evaluators were particularly impressed by the ease of use, durability, stability in the docking station and cleanability of the cordless device. The latter feature is facilitated by the unit’s smooth one-piece, stainless-steel exterior including sealed buttons. According to the consultants, these are sensitive and can be activated by a light touch. Via these buttons, the user can simply put the device into operation, select preset cure times of five, 10, 15, 20 and 120 seconds, or opt for a tack-cure mode to easily remove excess cement. Since the light guide of Elipar S10 rotates freely, access to all areas of the mouth is ensured. High optical power is achieved by a light intensity of 1,200 mW/cm2 and a special design that leads to a more focused light output.
Overall, the Elipar S10 received a 97% clinical rating. Eighty-three percent of consultants assessed the performance of the 3M ESPE curing device as being better than that of the curing light currently used in their practice, and reported that they would switch. However, the most stunning outcome of this test was that all consultants would recommend the Elipar S10 to their colleagues—a result that speaks for itself.
