S. Thikkurissy, DDS, MS, is a professor and director of the Residency Program in Pediatric Dentistry at Cincinnati Children's Hospital. He was on active duty in the United States Air Force for 8 years, during which time he served as chief of pediatric dentistry at Ramstein Air Force Base in Germany. Thikkurissy is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and has served as chair of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) Committee on Sedation and Anesthesia since 2012. He is a spokesperson for the AAPD.
While children are at increased risk of adverse outcomes when receiving procedural sedation and or general anesthesia, these negative events can be prevented.
