James S. Wefel, PhD, has been with the University of Iowa College of Dentistry in Iowa City for more than 30 years. He is the director of the Dows Institute for Dental Research. He is also the administrative director of the Office ofClinical Research and a professor in pediatric dentistry where he teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in cariology and preventive therapies. His main clinical interests include tooth remineralization/demineralization using the intraoral crown model, early caries detection, root surface caries, fluoride-releasing biomaterials, and secondary caries.
