How Oral Health Professionals Can Help Identify Human Trafficking Victims
Attendees of Dimensions’ Discovery EXPO will learn how to recognize the warning signs of human trafficking can empower oral health professionals to protect vulnerable patients and potentially save lives.

Oral health professionals may be among the few healthcare providers to encounter victims of human trafficking while they are still being exploited. At Dimensions’ Discovery EXPO on August 7 from 2 to 4 pm, Kandice Swarthout, RDH, LPC, will provide practical guidance on recognizing the signs of trafficking, identifying at-risk patients, and understanding appropriate reporting responsibilities. Combining her experience as both a registered dental hygienist and licensed professional counselor, Swarthout will help attendees recognize subtle indicators that may otherwise go unnoticed and explain how compassionate, informed responses can make a critical difference. This thought-provoking session equips clinicians with knowledge that extends beyond oral healthcare, empowering dental teams to become stronger advocates for patient safety and play an important role in confronting one of today’s fastest-growing humanitarian crises.
